NGC 1724 (also OCL 405) is a magnitude +11.7 asterism located in the constellation Auriga.
The group of stars was discovered by German astronomer George Friedrich Wilhelm Rümker using a 10.16 cm (4 inch) refractor at the Hamburg Observatory on the 30th April 1864.
