NGC 5171 (also MCG 2-34-20, UGC 8476 and PGC 47339) is a magnitude +12.8 elliptical galaxy located 316 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer George Washington Hough using a 46.99 cm (18.5 inch) refractor on the 5th May 1883.
