NGC 3142 (also MCG -1-26-28 and PGC 29586) is a magnitude +13.8 lenticular galaxy located 249 million light-years away in the constellation Sextans.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at the Cape of Good Hope on the 5th May 1836.
