NGC 5017 (also MCG -3-34-16 and PGC 45900) is a magnitude +12.6 elliptical galaxy located 117 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 7th May 1787.
