NGC 5829 (also Arp 42, HCG 73A, The Spider Galaxy, MCG 4-35-27, UGC 9673 and PGC 53709) is a magnitude +13.4 face-on spiral galaxy located 259 million light-years away in the constellation Boötes. 
The galaxy is gravitationally interacting with the neighbouring irregular galaxy IC 4526: these two galaxies are listed as Arp 42 in the Atlas of peculiar galaxies by Halton Arp.
It is one of 5 members (IC 4526, PGC 53702, PGC 53703 and PGC 53720) of galaxy group Hickson 73 (HCG 73). 

The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Edouard Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflecting telescope at the Marseille Observatory on the 11th May 1882.

The galaxy hosted supernova 2008b
