NGC 5178 (also MCG 2-34-22, UGC 8478 and PGC 47358) is a magnitude +13.8 spiral galaxy located 285 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/19 refractor at the Arcetri Observatory on the 11th May 1883.
