NGC 2298 (also ESO 366-SC22 and GCL 11) is a magnitude +9.3 globular star cluster located 35200 light-years away in the constellation Puppis. In 2003 it was discovered that NGC 2298 may have come from the Canis Major Dwarf galaxy. NGC 1851, Messier 79, NGC 1851 and NGC 2808 may have a similar origin. The cluster was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a homemade 9-foot 23 cm (9-inch) speculum Newtonian reflector at Paramatta (now named Parramatta), New South Wales, on the 8th May 1826.
