NGC 6982 (also ESO 235-19, IRAS 20537-5203 and PGC 65776) is a magnitude +13.7 spiral galaxy located 218 million light-years away in the constellation Indus.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at the Cape of Good Hope on the 8th July 1834.
