NGC 6509 (also IRAS 17569+0617, MCG 1-46-2, UGC 11075 and PGC 61230) is a magnitude +12.5 barred spiral galaxy located 83 million light years away in the constellation Ophiuchus.
The galaxy was discovered by French astronomer Edouard Jean-Marie Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflector at the Marseille Observatory on the 20th July 1879.
