Hubble Zooming Into NGC 4402
NGC 4402 (also IRAS 12235 +1323, MCG +2-32-44, UGC 7528 and PGC 40644) is a magnitude +11.8 type Sb edge-on spiral galaxy located 50 million light years away in the constellation Virgo.
NGC 4402 was discovered by the German astronomer Georg Friedrich Julius Arthur von Auwers using the 15.7 cm (6.2-inch) Fraunhofer heliometer at the Königsberg Observatory on the 5th March 1862.
On March 28, 1976 the type Ib supernova SN 1976b was discovered by Mikls Lovaós.
