NGC 6816 (also ESO 460-30, MCG -5-46-6 and PGC 63587) is a magnitude +12.9 elliptical galaxy located 277 million light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at the Cape of Good Hope on the 30th July 1834.
