Digital Universe Demo V1.5 For PPC-Amigaos This is a demo version of the commercial software package "The Digital Universe". It has the following restrictions and limitations over the registered version:
1. Stars, galaxies, nebulae, and clusters are only shown in a square from 4 to 7 hours right ascension and -15 to 15 degrees declination. This roughly covers the region occupied by the constellation of Orion, and is visible from both the northern and southern hemispheres.
2. The demo version will not allow you to simulate a view of the night sky later than November 5, 2007 nor before January 1, 2005.
3. Most of the hypertext encyclopaedia of astronomy has been removed. The exceptions, which remain with this demo package include: - the online help on how to use the software - the description and pictures for the Sun - the description and pictures for M42 (The Great Orion Nebula), M43, M78, IC 434 (background illumination for the Horsehead Nebula), and Betelgeuse - objects which are located in the region defined by restriction # 1.
REQUIREMENTS This demo will run on any Amiga with Amiga OS4 or greater, at least 3 megabytes of memory, and approximately 6 megabytes of hard drive space.
Hum, it seems that a new demo version of Digital Universe 1.5 beta for Amiga OS4, will be released on Aminet. The Demo will be a revised version to the current 68k version with a few enhancements.
"The aim is then to develop version 2 to be in line with and hopefully beyond the current Mac version".
"The Digital Universe" is an award-winning astronomical simulator package for the Amiga computer. Since release, it has become the standard software package for the amateur and professional astronomer. With a low price, the makers expect the software to become more accessible to the casual astronomy enthusiast, and to those interested in generally learning more about astronomy.
The software will run on any Amiga computer with Workbench 2.04 or greater, at least 3 Mb of memory, and a minimum of 11 Mb of hard drive space (17 Mb of disk space are required for a full installation). Due to the calculation-intensive nature of this software, an accelerated Amiga and math chip (FPU) is strongly recommended, though not required.
The original distribution of "The Digital Universe" consisted of 14 floppy disks and a printed user manual, all enclosed within a binder. A few years later, this was followed with a CD-ROM release. Now, "The Digital Universe" V1.03 for the Amiga is available via online distribution.
A demo version of "The Digital Universe" is available on Aminet, named Dig_Universe.lha (3.3mb) and located in the biz/demo directory. It lets you try out all the features of "Digital Universe", with the following restrictions:
* only a small subset of the hypertext encyclopedia is included * it doesn't let you simulate the night sky's appearance after June 1, 1998 * it only shows objects for a region of the sky in the vicinity of Orion.
