NGC 2256 (also MCG 12-7-15, UGC 3519 and PGC 19602) is a magnitude +12.5 elliptical galaxy located 241 million light-years away in the constellation Camelopardalis.
The galaxy was discovered by German astronomer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/19 refracting telescope at the Arcetri Observatory on the 1st August 1883.
