NGC 1858 (also ESO 56-SC74) is a magnitude +9.9 open cluster and H II emission nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud located in the constellation Dorado. The age of the star cluster is estimated to be between 8 and 10 million years. Preliminary studies shows that NGC 1858 is still an active star-forming region. The cluster was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop using a homemade 9-foot 22.86 cm (9 inch) f/12 speculum Newtonian reflector at Paramatta, New South Wales, Australia, on the 3rd August 1826.
