A large meteor event was detected infrasonically approximately (51°S, 24°E) 1,100 kilometres west-south-west of the Prince Edward Islands by a U.S. government instrument network designed to detect atmospheric explosions on August 3, 1963.

the August 3, 1963 bolide detected infrasonically near the Prince Edward Islands off the coast of South Africa, previously estimated to have an energy of 1100 kt, may have had a much smaller energy of 266±90 kt.
