NGC 6794 (also ESO 338-5, MCG -7-40-1 and PGC 63241) is a magnitude +12.9 spiral galaxy located 277 million light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 Inch) reflecting telescope at the Cape of Good Hope on the 24th August 1834.
