NGC 524 (also IRAS 01221+0916, MCG 1-4-53, UGC 968 and PGC 5222) is a magnitude +10.2 spiral galaxy located 109 million light-years away in the constellation Pisces.
The galaxy was discovered by by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Observatory House, Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire on the 4th September 1786.
