NGC 7079 (also ESO 287-36, MCG -7-44-22 and PGC 66934) is a magnitude +11.6 barred spiral galaxy located 123 million light-years away in the constellation Grus.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 (6.4 m focal length) speculum reflecting telescope reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town on the 6th September 1834.
