NGC 779 (also IRAS 01571-0612, MCG -1-6-16 and PGC 7544) is a magnitude +11.2 spiral galaxy located 63 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Clay Hall in Old Windsor on the 10th September 1785.
