NGC 23 (also IRAS 00073+2538, MCG 4-1-33, UGC 89 and PGC 698) is a magnitude +12.0 barred spiral galaxy located 175 to 210 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Datchet, Berkshire on the 10th September 1784.

Bright, extended ellipse; a bright nuclear structure is noticeably elongated; two weak spiral enhancements emerge from opposite sides of the nucleus, one curving towards a bright star attached on the south end. The galaxy is likely interacting with NGC 9. Read more
