NGC 1164 (also IRAS 02587+4223, MCG 7-7-16, UGC 2490 and PGC 11441) is a magnitude +13.1 face-on barred spiral galaxy located 192 million light-years away in the constellation Perseus.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire, on the 18th September 1828.
