NGC 52 (also IRAS 00120+1818, MCG 3-1-30, UGC 140 and PGC 978) is a magnitude +13.4 edge-on spiral galaxy located 248 ±17 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Observatory House, Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire on the 18th September 1784.
