NGC 20 (also NGC 6, MCG 5-1-36, UGC 84 and PGC 679) is a magnitude +14.0 lenticular galaxy located 228 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. The galaxy is close to a magnitude +10.0 star.
The galaxy was discovered by Irish astronomer R. J. Mitchell, assistant to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, using a 182.88 cm (72 inch) speculum reflector at Birr Castle on the 18th September 1857. The galaxy was rediscovered by Lewis Swift in September 1885 and relisted as NGC 6.
