NGC 654 (also Collinder 18, Melotte 9 and OCL 330) is a magnitude +6.5 open star cluster located 6,657 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia.
The cluster was first discovered by astronomer Caroline Herschel, using a 10.67 cm (4.2 inch) Newtonian reflector, on the 27th September 1783.
The object was rediscovered by German astronomer William Herschel on the 3rd November 1787.
