NGC 542 (also HCG 10D, MCG 2-58-22 and PGC 5360) is a magnitude +14.8 spiral galaxy located 214 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The galaxy is a member of Hickson Compact Group 10, consisting of NGC 529, NGC 531 and NGC 536.
The galaxy was discovered by Irish astronomer R. J. Mitchell, assistant to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, using a 182.88 cm (72 inch) f/8.8 speculum reflector at Birr Castle on the 16th October 1855.
