NGC 531 (also HCG 10C, MCG 6-4-20, UGC 1012 and PGC 5340) is a magnitude +13.8 barred spiral galaxy located 214 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda.
The galaxy is a member of Hickson Compact Group 10, consisting of NGC 529, NGC 536 and NGC 542.
The galaxy was discovered by Irish astronomer R. J. Mitchell, assistant to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, using a 182.88 cm (72 inch) f/8.8 speculum reflector at Birr Castle on the 16th October 1855.
