NGC 5536 (also IRAS 14143+3944, MCG 7-29-57, UGC 9136 and PGC 50986) is a magnitude +13.6 face-on barred spiral galaxy located 269 million light-years away in the constellation Boötes.
The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road in Slough, Berkshire, on the 29th April 1788.
