NGC 5584 (also MCG+00-37-001, UGC 9201, SDSS J142223.76-002315.6 and PGC 51344) is a magnitude =11.5 face-on spiral galaxy located ~73 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard using a 12.7 cm (5 inch) refracting telescope at the Vanderbilt Observatory, Nashville, on the 27th July 1881.
