NGC 6040 (also ARP 122, NGC 6040A + NGC 6040B, UGC 10165, MCG+03-41-074 and PGC 56932) is a pair of magnitude +13.9 and +14.2 spiral galaxies located 580 and 564 million light-years away in the constellation Hercules. The galaxy is part of the Hercules Supercluster and, together with the galaxy NGC 6040B (PGC 56942), forms the interacting double galaxy Arp 122.
The galaxies were discovered by French astronomer Edouard Stephan using a 80.01 cm (31.5 inch) reflector at the Marseille Observatory on the 27th June 1870.
