NGC 6044 (also IC 1172, MCG 3-41-84 and PGC 57015) is a magnitude +14.3 lenticular galaxy located 456 million light-years away in the constellation Hercules.
The galaxy was discovered by American astronomer Lewis Swift using a 40.6 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 27th June 1886. The galaxy was rediscovered by Guillaume Bigourdan in June 1888 and relisted as IC 1172.
