NGC 2509 (also ESO 561-SC7 and OCL 630) is a magnitude +9.3 open star cluster located 2975±49 light-years away in the constellation Puppis.
The cluster was discovered by the German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector in Datchet, on the 3rd December 1783.
