NGC 5082 (also ESO 269-89, MCG -7-27-53 and PGC 46566) is a magnitude +12.8 barred spiral galaxy located 179 million light-years away in the constellation Centaurus. NGC 5082 is part of the galaxies group consisting of NGC 5090 and NGC 5091
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at the Cape of Good Hope on the 3rd June 1834.
The galaxy hosted supernova 1958F
