NGC 5291 (also MCG -5-33-6, ESO 445-30, PGC 48893) is a magnitude +13.9 elliptical or lenticular HII interacting galaxy located 190 million light-years away in the constellation Centaurus.
A tidal dwarf galaxy NGC 5291B, also named "Seashell" galaxy, is interacting with NGC 5291.
NGC 5291 is surrounded by a collisional ring, containing young and actively star forming regions.
The galaxy is located in the western outskirts of the galaxy cluster Abell 3574 and may be a member.

NGC 5291 was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 8th May 1834.
