The strategic submarine rocket cruiser K-117 "Brjansk" was transferred to Sewerodwinsk (a port on the white sea) after a major refit.
The project 667BDRM submarines are armed with 16 RSM-54/D-9RM missiles. The submarine has a water displacement of 18,200 tons, and is 167 meters long and 12 meters wide. The underwater speed is 25 knots, the maximum submerged depth - 400 meters. The crew consists of 135 members.
The "Brjansk" type submarines are expected to be in service until 2020. All submarines of this type will be eventually be fitted with the new "Sinewa" (SS-N-23 “Skiff”) missiles, which have a higher accuracy compared to the RSM-54 missiles. The main difference is that the new missiles are equipped with ten nuclear warheads, and are protected from the effects of electromagnetic impulses. "Sinewa" is a three stage rocket. It is manufactured in the mechanical engineering work in the Siberian Krasnojarsk.
A R-29RM Sineva/SS-N-23 Sineva missile was successfully launched from a Project 667BDRM/Dela IV class strategic submarine of the Russian Northern Fleet. The missile was launched from beneath arctic ice towards a target site on the Kanin Peninsula on September 9, 2006.
