NASA will hold a news briefing with astronauts from the Apollo program at 9:30 a.m. EDT on Monday, July 20, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first lunar landing.

Moon landing anniversary: a giant leap for Britain, too Forty years ago, the Americans put a man on the Moon. But they couldn't have done it without Britain's help. What is overlooked is that while the great bulk of those involved were indeed American citizens, there was also a significant foreign contribution, in particular from Britain. One engineer was so important that President Nixon would later admit that without his work, the Moon landing of July 21, 1969 would have been impossible.
During their stay, Armstrong and Aldrin collected rocks and deployed several scientific instruments, including a seismometer that measured moonquakes. They also left behind the Laser Ranging Retroreflector, an array of 100 prisms designed to reflect a laser beam from Earth directly back to its source. The Laser Ranging Retroreflector was abbreviated LRRR.
