Troy unearthed
A large wooden horse stands at the entrance to the archaeological site at Troy, located in north-western Turkey, as a reminder of the legend that surrounds this ancient city.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors pass by the horse which is popular with children who never fail to climb the ladder into the belly of the 20-metre-high figure.
According to legend, ancient Greek soldiers besieging the city of Troy pretended to withdraw and left a wooden horse behind them. The citizens of Troy brought the horse into the city, and the rest is history.

Archaeological dig may have unearthed the city of Troy
Ancient Greek texts like The Iliad and The Odyssey are revealing new secrets about the ancient world, the most prominent being the discovery of a site that might be the city of Troy.
Thanks to evidence from a range of disciplines, experts are in the middle of a massive reappraisal of these foundational works of Western literature.
Recent advances in archaeology and linguistics offer the strongest support yet that the Trojan War did take place, with evidence coming from the large excavation at the likely site of Troy, as well as new analysis of cuneiform tablets from the dominant empire of the region.

Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, Artemis, the chaste goddess of the hunt, and Hera, the wife of Zeus and queen of the gods, lined up in front of him, stark naked if we're to believe the artists.

A German archaeologist in charge of excavations in ancient Troy announced that a new dimension will be added to the excavations with the finds of the past 20 years being gathered together for the first time. Member of the teaching staff at Tübingen University, Dr. Ernst Pernicka told the Anatolia news agency Thursday that they were ready to present the intermediate results of the two-decade dig saying, "We will crown the past 20 years of work with publications. This project will be the intermediate results of the past 20 years of work."

After intensive demand from visitors, the surroundings of the ancient city of Troy, near the Aegean city of Çanakkale, will be redesigned.

Most of the complaints were about the toilets. In order to solve this and other problems, a tender for the architectural project was issued last week - Çanakkale Mayor Orhan Krl.

The Ancient City of Troy, located within the borders of Tevfikiye village in the Marmara city of Çanakkale, is being rediscovered through recently launched 'Korfmann Library Visits.'
The library bears the name of the head of the excavation team in Troy, Professor Manfred Osman Korfmann. The energetic and controversial Korfmann died two years ago, but the library has a revived mission now.

Archaeologists have discovered the place where Aeneas is believed to have first set foot in Italy.
It is the closest point on the Italian peninsula to Albania and, until efforts by the coastguard some years ago, was the destination of choice for Albanians fleeing poverty for the glamour and prosperity of their wealthy neighbour. But suddenly, the little town of Castro in the province of Lecce has something much more exciting to shout about.
Archaeologists at the University of Lecce have discovered that the modern town, with its 15th-century walls, sits on the ruins of the port that was the first landfall in Italy made by the semi-mythical wanderer of the ancient world, Aeneas. According to Virgil's epic, he fled Troy as the Greeks destroyed it and made his laborious way westwards finally to found a "new Troy", the imperial city of Rome.

Bronze peak of a spear, 35 ages old was founded on Sunday at the foothills of the Thracian sacred complex of Perperikon.
The find is 12-13 cm long and it dates from the time of the Trojan War, reported the head of the excavations, Nikolai Ovcharov.
The spear's peak was found by a local citizen, while he was cultivated his land.

What comes to mind first when we hear the name “Çanakkale” is Gallipoli, the Aynalı Çarşı (Mirror Bazaar) and the ancient city of Troy.
The places where the Gallipoli campaign took place are mostly frequented by local and Australian tourists. The ancient city of Troy, added in 2006 to the UNESCO World Heritage List, attracts visitors from all countries. Troy, the place where the world’s first recorded war took place, was visited by 70,000 people a year 15 years ago, but this number now exceeds 500,000 annually. The movie “Troy,” which starred Brad Pitt, played a role in this increase. The giant wooden horse that housed Greek soldiers in the film has been brought from Japan to Çanakkale for exhibition purposes. Local and foreign tourists are showing great interest in the horse, exhibited at Morabbin Park in Çanakkale’s city centre.
