Stupid 'London meteorite strike' by Eden TV

London was rocked by a meteorite strike this morning, with a huge boulder from outer space crashing into a taxi in busy Covent Garden.
The incident was in fact a stunt by Eden TV to launch its Science Month which begins on Sunday.

Asteroid or glitch? Google Sky user spots strange, undiscovered glowing rock in our solar system

A user has found a 'huge asteroid' while scanning the virtual heavens using Googly Sky. Youtube user planetkrejci, who has investigated other anomalies on NASA pictures, claims the object - found using the Google website which transports the heavens to desktop computers and smartphones - is an asteroid which is heading towards Earth.

Man seized for selling fake meteorite for $95,000

Police in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City have detained a man who cheated a woman by selling her a false meteorite for VND2 billion (US$95,000) three months ago.
Vo Quang Truc, 45, of District 6, was arrested last Friday in Kien Giang Province, after his victim, Nguyen Ngoc Lan, 39, of District 12, reported the scam to police.

Satellite prankster won't be charged: RCMP

RCMP have no plans to investigate a local prankster behind a social media hoax describing a NASA satellite crashing near Okotoks over the weekend.
Aspiring Calgary filmmaker Sebastian Salazar channelled Orson Welles in his tweets from a spoof Twitter account detailing reports the space junk landed in southern Alberta.

Ed ~  Sebastian Salazar revealed his bad judgment, and lack of foresight in trying to cause panic or distress (aka to a lesser degree a hoax airport bomb). While his inexperience of filming did not fool astronomy experts, it did fool many innocent net users; it is fair to say that he should not be charged. Hopefully he has learned his lesson.

If you want to believe something, you will, says Sebastian Salazar, the Calgary filmmaker who took Twitter users watching for news on a falling satellite for a ride Friday night.
As the first claims of people seeing NASA's Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) coming down over Okotoks, 45 km south of Calgary, Salazar was inspired to tease a modern day War of the Worlds.

Today's fool is Harold Camping

 

'Rapture' end of world fails to materialise

After today's day of reckoning, Harold Camping said non-believers would suffer through hell on earth until October 21, when God would pull the plug on the planet once and for all.
But after incorrectly predicting the end of the world in 1994, Camping's prophecies have been met with derision. And it seems this time he was wrong again.

Ed ~ Causing unfounded fear and emotional distress (just for monetary gain?) is nothing short of terrorism.
Accountants have calculated the total worth of Family Radio at $72 million. According to recent IRS filings, Family Radio brought in $18 million in contributions in 2009,  (We can be sure that Harold Camping is not out of pocket, and takes full advantage of company 'benefits' and 'expense' payments).

Matteo Ianneo says he discovered the new face on Mars by examining pictures sent back to Earth from an ESA probe orbiting the Red Planet and worked into Google's map of Mars.    He is unsure if the photos are optical illusions or a real sculptured face but feels the images will never-the-less cause a sensation around the world.
