Russian engineers made last-minute preparations for the Saturday launch of a Soyuz capsule bound for the international space station with two cosmonauts and U.S. billionaire Charles Simonyi aboard. Simonyis friend, lifestyle guru Martha Stewart, spent the final hours before the launch taking a stroll aboard another mode of transport commonly seen around the gritty Baikonur space port in the barren steppes of Kazakhstan a camel. On Friday, Stewart shared a private moment with Simonyi though only through a plate glass window, to protect him and his crewmates from germs.
The 15th International Space Station crew is scheduled to launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 17:31 GMT on April 7th. Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin, Oleg Kotov, and Space passenger Charles Simonyi will dock their Soyuz TMA-10 spacecraft to the ISS just after 19:00 GMT, on April 9th. Charles Simonyi will return to Earth with Expedition 14 crew members, Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria and Flight Engineer Mikhail Tyurin, on April 20. The TMA-10 capsule will remain at the station for about six months, providing an escape pod for the crew. Expedition 15 will return in six-months time.
