A piece of the moon lands in Broward's main library Broward County Main Library is the first public library in the country to put a piece of the moon on public display. In Susan Eisele Black's life there have been what she calls "moments when the whole world stops and watches."
Highly detailed photographs of the Moon taken by the Apollo missions are being made available to the public for the first in more than 30 years. Photos taken on the Apollo 15, 16 and 17 missions in the 1970s showed the Moon in great detail but were only ever viewed by a few scientists. Since then they have been locked away in freezers by Nasa to preserve them. Arizona State University is now making them available from the internet after using high resolution scanners.
Previously unpublished NASA space mission images will go on show to the UK public this summer. The collection of official large format NASA photographs built up by UK collector Leslie Cantwell, covers missions from Apollo 7 to Apollo 17 . The Proud Galleries in Camden, London will exhibit the images from 21 June until 'late summer'.
Proud Camden presents an unseen collection of official NASA photographs with authentic NASA serialisation and signatures by the original astronauts themselves. Celebrating a fundamental chapter of Americana, which has almost been forgotten, Proud puts the spotlight on images that ultimately changed the world. The 1960s 1972 mark the golden years of space travel, during the first and last such voyages to the moon. In an effort to capture the glory of these years in history, Proud unveils an unprecedented collection of large format photographs amassed personally by UK based collector, Leslie Cantwell. Cantwell has amassed what is regarded by the industries experts as the worlds largest collection of its kind and Proud Galleries will be focusing on the most critical portion of this collection: The Apollo Missions. These impressive photographs include the explorations of Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, John Young, Michael Collins, Harrison Schmitt, Gene Cernan and of course Neil Armstrong and many more.
