Johannes Hevelius (28 January 1611 - 28 January 1687) was a councillor and mayor of Danzig (Gdask), Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. As an astronomer he gained a reputation as "the founder of lunar topography" and described ten new constellations, seven of which are still recognised by astronomers.

In the late 17th century, the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius began crafting a new atlas of the stars. He had one big problem, though. There were many "supernumeri," leftover stars that didn't belong to any known constellation. Hevelius got creative, and devised new constellations of his own. One of these was Leo Minor, the Little Lion.
