Pine Mountain Observatory invites public for summer star gazing east of Bend
The public is invited to drop by for visits on Friday and Saturday nights, from May through September. The coming few weeks are prime time. Programs begin at 9 p.m., then at 8:30 or 8 as darkness falls earlier in September. A donation of $3 per person is requested. Read more
Pine Mountain Observatory to be open May 25 to Sept. 29 New season for star gazing awaits Friday- Saturday-night visitors Star-gazing, planet-searching and constellation viewing are just a leisurely drive away, beginning Friday, May 25, at the Pine Mountain Observatory (PMO) located about an hour's drive southeast of Bend. The observatory, operated by the physics department of the University of Oregon, will be open through Sept. 29 for visitors to drop in on Friday and Saturday evenings, from dusk until late night, weather permitting. While admission is free, a $5 donation per visitor is suggested to help defray operating costs.
