Next launch of Indias Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C9, is scheduled to carry Indias latest Remote Sensing satellite, CARTOSAT-2A along with Indian Mini Satellite (IMS-1) and eight nanosatellites from abroad around 9.20 am on Monday, April 28, 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota. This will be the thirteenth flight of PSLV and third flight with core-alone configuration.

One of the three 'core alone' Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV) to blast off Monday from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh will carry the heaviest luggage - 824 kg - comprising the remote sensing Cartosat-2A satellite, the Indian Mini Satellite and eight nano satellites.

ISRO will launch ten satellites, including eight from abroad, which will be carried by PSLV-C9 on April 28 from Sriharikota.
The cluster of satellites to be lifted included Indian satellite Cartosat-2A weighing 690 kg. The vehicle would also carry eight Nano satellites of 16 to 27 kg from Canada, Netherlands, Denmark and Germany.

ISRO will launch Carto-2A satellite which has Cartography applications including remote sensing, ground water development etc and a resolution of one meter, by end of January 2008 or first week of February, according to RK Rajangam, deputy director, ISRO.
Talking to PTI on the sidelines of the launch of Indias first students chapter of Astronautical Society of India, he said any object wanting to be seen from less than one metre will find application in the Carto-2A satellite. This would be particularly useful in infrastructure development of urban areas etc. The satellite will be launched using PSLV launch vehicle.
ISRO will also launch a commercial satellite on January 2 for Israel from Sriharikota.

India is on the threshold of joining a select band of advanced countries by putting into orbit a dedicated military satellite.
The military-specific reconnaissance satellite CARTOSAT-2A will be launched on a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) by the end of this year, ISRO officials said.

The Cartosat 2A will be a military version of the Cartosat 2 satellite launched by ISRO in January this year.
According to reports, the Cartosat 2A will carry an advanced synthetic aperture radar (SAR) made by Israel and a digital camera with a resolution of less than one metre. The Cartosat 2A will give India the capability to monitor missile launches by rivals Pakistan and China, and also make the country only the second Asian country after Japan to have this advanced capability.
