The Swift Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) and X-Ray Telescope (XRT) observed supernova 2007gi on the 3rd  August and managed to  measure the  UVOT magnitudes:
v = 14.6±0.1 (79 seconds exposure time)
b = 15.0±0.1 (157 seconds)
u = 15.2±0.1 (157 seconds)
uvw1 ((181-321nm) = 17.2±0.2 (472 seconds)
uvm2 (166-268 nm) = 20.1±0.5 (875 seconds)
uvw2 (112-264 nm) = 18.5±0.2 (621 seconds).

A Type Ia magnitude 14.6 (and rising) supernova, 2007gi, was discovered on the 31th July, 2007, by Koichi Itagaki in the regular lenticular galaxy NGC 4036 in the constellation ursa major.
The supernova is located 23" west and 11" south of the centre of the galaxy.
