Mexico, the Cayman Islands and Belize are bracing for the impact of Hurricane Dean after the storm battered Jamaica.
Winds of up to 240km/h tore off roofs, uprooted trees and downed power lines in Jamaica as the storm's centre passed just south of the island.
The low-lying Cayman Islands are expecting storm surges and heavy waves as the storm passes to the south.
