The weather satellite GOES-12, which provides most of the weather pictures for the United States, became unusable on Tuesday, December 4. The satellite is positioned in geostationary orbit over the Amazon. A normal station-keeping manoeuvre to adjust its location was not completed as usual and services could not be continued.
GOES-12 Anomaly On Tuesday 4 December, 2007, the GOES-12 (GOES-East) weather satellite experienced an anomaly in its attitude following a scheduled North-South station keeping manoeuvre. On Wednesday (2007-12-05) GOES-10 replaced GOES-12 as the GOES-East satellite. CLASS is now using GOES-10 data until the GOES-12 issue is resolved.
