There are stories of an meteorite impact seen and heard 75kms south of Altai, Hovd province, Mongolia, on 8th of January, 2008. A large bright object was seen to impact around 8:00 PM local time in the rural district. Seismic stations in the town of Ulaanbaatar registered a magnitude 1.6 quake.
