Space shuttle Discovery and its crew landed at 11:15 a.m. EDT Saturday, at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, completing a 14-day journey of more than 5.7 million miles in space.
Objects spotted on imagery beamed down from the shuttle Discovery briefly raised concerns about the plan for Saturday's landing, but after a review, NASA said on Friday that the objects posed no problem. One of the objects, seen floating away from the shuttle after a routine test of the flight control systems and steering jets, was identified as a metal clip for Discovery's speed brake. The other object, which looked as if it was protruding from the rudder, is a normal feature that took on an unusual look because of the lighting conditions.
The space shuttle Discovery pulled away from the International Space Station early Wednesday as the 123rd mission of the shuttle fleet headed toward a close.
