Welsh earthquake could be result of historic ice sheet melt
The Welsh earthquake was probably caused by weak plate tectonic forces and slow movement of the earths crust following the melting of ice sheets thousands of years ago. An earthquake has hit the Bodmin area of Cornwall overnight. According to reports from the British Geological Society, the 2.2-magnitude tremor hit at 02:40 GMT and lasted for a few seconds. Blackpool Shale Gas drilling suspended after quake
Shale gas test drilling in Lancashire has been suspended following an earthquake on the Fylde coast. A spokeswoman for Cuadrilla, the company carrying out the tests, said drilling was suspended as a precaution after Friday's 1.5 magnitude quake. Read more
