A magnitude 15.4 supernova, 2008fq, was discovered by the Lick Observatory Supernova Search (LOSS) on the 15th September, 2008, in the barred spiral galaxy NGC 6907 (mag 11.3 ) in the constellation Capricornus. The supernova is located 6" west and 5" north from the centre of the galaxy. Position(2000): RA = 20h25m06.19, Dec. = -24°48'27".6 z = 0.010641 As yet the type is unknown
NGC 6907 is interacting with the lenticular galaxy NGC 6908, which is seen as a bright patch embedded in one spiral arm. There have been two recorded supernovas in the galaxy (2004bv and 1984V).
