Magnitude: 10.7
Distance to Earth: 1.212 AU
Distance to Sun center: 2.215 AU

The magnitude 11.8  main belt asteroid (56) Melete  will occult the magnitude 10.9  star on TYC 0633-01047-1 at around 22:36 UT, 24th September, 2008.
The event will be viewable from western Europe and the UK.
The High proper-motion star TYC 633-1047-1  lies in the constellation  Aries, near to the boundary of Cetus and Pisces.

Position(2000): R.A. 02 05 38.4102, Dec +10 59 31.440

The maximum occultation will last about 13.6 seconds, with the stars brightness expected to drop by magnitude 1.5.
So far two stellar occultations by Melete have been observed successfully (in 1997 and again in 2002).
